Of Course Colman Domingo Looks Incredible in Valentino at the Oscars

Colman Domingo is the first person to earn back-to-back Best Actor nominations at the Oscars since Denzel did it in 2017 and 2018. That is, to totally understate things, impressive. This is a performer so obviously talented that we could, with good reason, talk about nothing other than his onscreen chops and take a very long time before we run out of things to say.

Which is why it feels almost unfair that he’s also an absolute juggernaut on the red carpet. The man simply dominates, dressing with the kind of expressiveness and flair that many aspire to but few achieve. So here we are on Hollywood’s biggest night. And there’s Colman Domingo, with his million-watt smile, making it very clear that he knows he looks great as he makes his way into the 97th Annual Academy Awards.

He’s wearing Valentino, which should come as no surprise. He’s clearly developed an affinity for the label, which is enjoying a major moment under the creative stewardship of a post-Gucci Alessandro Michele. He’s also sporting custom Persol sunglasses and an Omega watch—a high-end take on the Speedmaster—that delivers just the right blend of glitz and classicism to match a belted, bright red dinner jacket and black trousers (which are, in true Colman Domingo fashion, actually hemmed properly!).

But what’s most important about the whole outfit is just how comfortable he looks while wearing it. This is a man who seems to genuinely enjoy the preshow spectacle. Turns out that sense of enjoyment is contagious. No matter what happens when the awards start getting doled out, he’s already got a win under his belt tonight. And thanks to his enthusiasm and positivity, the rest of us do, too.
