Time has not been kind to Joel Miller. His hair is overgrown. His beard has more gray than usual. Hell, he needs reading glasses now. But his taste in outerwear? That remains unchanged. In the season two premiere of The Last of Us, we find our heroes Joel and Ellie, played by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey respectively, five years after we left them back in season one. The zombies are still raging, people are still conspiring (hello, Catherine O’Hara), and Joel is still wearing his Flint and Tinder waxed trucker jacket, presumably because even SSENSE has shuttered in the wake of a fungal pandemic.

We clocked Joel’s go-to jacket throughout season one of the show (along with no shortage of covetable menswear), but few of his stylistic choices piqued our interests as much as his rugged trucker. Which makes a heckuva lot of sense: Flint and Tinder’s jacket isn’t one of Huckberry’s most popular items—it is Huckberry’s most popular item. Joel’s particular version is cut from a hardy 7 oz. sailcloth cotton and equipped with a cozy flannel lining, and it’s long been one of GQ’s favorites. (And one of yours, too.)

Will it keep you protected from the undead? Probably not. But short of an actual apocalypse, we can’t think of a cold-weather scenario where it won’t come in handy, on its own with a beefy cable-knit and some new-age selvedge, or layered underneath a snazzy topcoat and fuzzy fleece pants on a blustery January morning.

Even five fictional years later, the Flint and Tinder jacket still kills (metaphorically!). It wears its age gracefully, having looked like it’s never been washed in the half-decade since we last saw it, ravaged by dust, debris, snow, rain, and—more than likely—its share of Clicker blood. Anyone who’s played video games can probably guess what to expect next, but how this jacket factors into The Last of Us season 2 action is still a mystery. Until then, stock up while inventory lasts and enjoy cosplaying as your favorite zombie-fighting zaddy.
