Previoiusly, Grace Van Patten was best known for her breakout role on Netflix’s Nine Perfect Strangers, which premiered in 2021. She told Glamour at the time, “I had never read a character description that was so thoughtful and deep and layered. You just don’t see that often, especially with female roles. I was very intrigued by that.” She also said, “I tend to be drawn to internal characters, and I want to push myself out of that. I love comedy so much, and I would love to be a part of something like that and go for it.”
Now, Van Patten is not acting in a comedy, but she is taking on another internal, nuanced female character as Amanda Knox. Knox became famous when she was convicted in Italy for murder, which was later overturned. Knox told The New York Times that people “get chills” when they see Van Patten play her in the series. Van Patten said, “I was able to go to those places because of how deeply open Amanda was and how deeply vulnerable she was with me.”
