Best Oversized Reading Chair
Floyd Home Sink Down Lounge Chair
Pros
Extremely comfortable for long stretches of time
Matching ottoman available
Cons
Very pricey
Big
If you’re looking to level up your reading-chair game, we can’t find a better option than Floyd’s oversized, sink-in chair. Which is, yes, basically a couch. It’s great for reading, taking naps, watching movies, you name it. It’s also pricey and large at 51 by 45 inches, but if you have the space and the budget for it, it’s a life-changing piece of furniture.
Choose from a host of cool colors, but note that some colors are in different fabrics. (The oat-colored one shown here is a performance fabric.) Add a matching ottoman for the full experience.
Call us basic, but we love a simple chair. This one has a comfy feel but also a cool coastal look that’ll help it blend right into any space. There are a few light neutral color options, but they tend to sell out, so secure your favorite while you can. Add a contrasting pillow or throw and call it a day (of reading).
We like how wide the seat is and how thick the back cushion is. It makes sitting in it for long stretches more tolerable, since you can easily change positions.

Best Handcrafted Chair
The Citizenry Laurel Armchair
We love the Citizenry for its handcrafted, high-quality pieces. Made in North Carolina, the Laurel chair has a round barrel design. The the leather of this option will blend seamlessly into any room, and you can even choose between maple and walnut wood. Either way, it’ll last you for years to come. We like the supportive barrel shape for locked-in sitting, but the contrast between the wooden legs and the leather upholstery is the big visual draw.

Best Bouclé Reading Chair
Olela Accent Chair
Pros
Inexpensive
Cons
Cheaper materials used
Amazon has some low-key great budget furniture options that aren’t the kind of sterile choices offered by other mass retailers, like this dupe of a pricey bouclé chair. The seat and back are perfectly fine for reading, wide enough to let you sit however you’d like, and that soft fabric adds texture to a room. The chair looks especially good with a complementary ottoman or a throw blanket on top.

Our favorite reading chair is this plush, cozy choice from Albany Park. It’s available in polyester fabric, velvet, or leather, with either gold or black legs. You can add a matching ottoman, too, turning the wide seat (45 inches across) into a one-person couch.
Studio McGee’s collections with Threshold at Target are always strong choices when decorating your home. Easiest Reading Chair
Simplihome Elmont Accent Chair

Style will easily blend into any home
Cons

Mediocre arm rests
For reading seating, you can’t go wrong with this simple, well-priced accent chair, with its medium-height back and easy arms. It’s a comfy 30 inches wide and is made with a neutral linen fabric and black metal frame. If you like the feel but want something smaller, there are 25- and 27-inch options, too.
The seat on this is more upright, good for reading things with a purpose, like going over your work to-dos or proofreading your kid’s homework. It’s comfortable but still feels dignified.
