Best Classic Leather Chair for the Bedroom
Pottery Barn Turner Roll Arm Leather Chair

Pros
Works well with most design styles, including traditional, mid-century modern, and craftsman
Cons
Won’t look great in contemporary or glam spaces
Pricey, unless you can snag it on sale
If you want to make one corner of your bedroom feel like a study, this leather armchair from Pottery Barn has a nice worn-in look. Pair it with a patterned throw pillow and a chunky knit blanket for a cozy reading (or doom-scrolling) corner. You get a bonus if you put this next to or in front of a bookcase to complete the academia vibe. Joking aside, it’s easy to make this chair blend into your space with the proper accessories.
We like that this armchair comes in two sizes and nearly 50 leather options, so you can get the exact look you’re going for. Plus, the higher back ensures that your spine is fully supported, which will make it comfortable to sit in for hours at a time.

Best Oversized Chair for the Bedroom
Floyd Sink Down Lounge Chair

Pros
Looks good with most design aesthetics, particularly minimalism and modern.
Cons
Won’t gel well in historical-inspired design styles, like Tudor or Regency.
Made-to-order, so expect a longer shipping window
Last year, Floyd’s Sink Down chair was hitting me with so many ads on Instagram that I grew frustrated that I had too small of a one-bedroom to accommodate one of these cozy chairs. The Sink Down chair is the perfect example of the Reading Chairs that were going viral in fall and winter 2024. It’s big enough that you can curl up in it without feeling cramped. However, it does have a bigger footprint than most armchairs, so you’ll need a bigger bedroom to fit it.
Floyd is known for its simple modern style, and this chair is inoffensive enough (even in a more colorful option) that it’ll blend into most bedrooms. If you’re prioritizing comfort over style, then this is a great choice.

Best Mid-Century Inspired Chair for the Bedroom
Burrow Vesper Leather & Wood Lounge Chair

Pros
Works great with classic styles, including mid-century modern.
Cons
Won’t match more casual styles, like farmhouse or coastal.
I’ve been coveting this Burrow chair ever since I first laid eyes on it in the showroom in New York City. (Yes, coveting a Burrow chair!) As far as bedroom chairs go, this one definitely makes a statement. I’d only consider getting this chair with the ottoman, because I think it makes the most sense, visually and ergonomically, as a unit. I can attest that I could sit in this chair for hours.
It’d look amazing lodged in a corner with a globe floor lamp behind it. I personally prefer the black leather and walnut wood combo, but it comes in other leather and performance fabric options. The leather cowhide looks and feels nice without being too delicate. It’s a great choice for those who are all-in on mid-century modern.

Best Swivel Chair for the Bedroom
CB2 Fitz Velvet Swivel Chair

Pros
Inspired by art deco, so this could be a great fit for eclectic, glam, or maximalist styles.
Cons
Won’t go well with more rustic styles.
Swivel chairs are all the rage right now, and this one from CB2 is particularly elegant. If you like to move or fidget a little when you sit, the Fitz Swivel Chair can be a lot of fun (as far as chairs go). You won’t have to maneuver it if you want to look out the window or face the chair in a different direction.
The channel-tufted velvet gives this chair a welcoming and warm feel. Velvet is also usually considered cat-scratch proof—though it will collect pet hair—which is a plus. The only thing that might turn some shoppers off from this chair is that it has a lower back than some of the other options on this list.

Best Armless Chair for the Bedroom
Soho Home Ewan Armchair

Pros
Despite the unique silhouette, this chair should go with classic, eclectic, and modern design aesthetics.
Cons
The peach-y shade is the only color available, which might be too limiting for some.
Pricey
For those who don’t want a big bulky-looking armchair in their bedroom, consider this armless option from Soho Home. The Ewan strikes the delicate balance of looking stylish while also looking like a chair that you’d actually like to sit down in.
The button-tufted design helps give it more of a classic look and less of a high-end modern thing. Just keep in mind that if this chair isn’t low-maintenance, if you spill on it, you’re going to need to get it professionally cleaned.

Best Handcrafted Chair for the Bedroom
The Citizenry Augusta Armchair

For an armchair that looks a little more elegant and a little less like a mini-sofa, the Augusta armchair should be your pick. At first glance, this armchair looks like a more traditional Windsor chair—but with a twist. The rounded frame contrasted by the rectangular back cushion creates a visually interesting silhouette. It might be tempting to make this your clothes chair, but we recommend trying to keep it clean with just a small throw pillow or patterned throw to let this chair get its due.
Just a note that this armchair does offer a more upright seat and it doesn’t look like there’s much room to swing your legs up onto it, so if you want an armchair to curl up in, this one isn’t for you.

Best Wing Chair for the Bedroom
West Elm Jodie Wing Chair

Pros
Timeless design that’ll work best in more traditional spaces.
Cons
This chair would look out of place in eclectic homes.
People either love or hate the way a wing chair looks. It’s a polarizing piece of furniture that has managed to remain in style. The silhouette is actually very practical if you think about it. It’s designed to keep drafts away from the neck and head. This type of chair has been around since the 1600s (and honestly, it probably saved some lives). So if you’re a person who appreciates common-sense design, then maybe you should put this in front of your bedroom window.
As far as this specific West Elm chair goes, I liked how it was shown with the brown bouclé fabric, which brings this chair into this century, in my opinion. Put a patterned Persian or Moroccan rug underneath it to add some depth and color to your room.

Best Designer Chair for the Bedroom
Knoll Wassily Chair

Pros
Best for spaces designed in the Bauhaus or modern styles
You can pick from four different frame finishes
Cons
Very pricey
The Wassily chair has been around since 1925, but it’s still such a unique design that it’s show-stopping to this day. Designed by Marcel Breuer, who was inspired by a bicycle, this chair is a sleek addition. The polished chrome will add sophistication to any space. Just a warning that this chair will likely be where people’s eyes land first when they first enter the room. It’s a scene-stealer.
Because of the stretched leather (or whichever fabric you choose, why not go hair-on cowhide?), this will be a firmer seat and likely not one you’ll want to sit in for hours. It’s more of a work of art than anything else.

Best Reclining Chair for the Bedroom
Wayfair Beecher Manual Club Recliner

Pros
A great pick for traditional or mid-century modern bedrooms
Cons
Not meant for modern design-inspired bedrooms
Some assembly required
Add another relaxing spot in your bedroom with the Beecher Leather Recliner, which barely looks like a recliner, thankfully. With this manual recliner, all you need to do is lean back to get the back to recline and the footrest to extend. Obviously, before you set this up, make sure you have enough room so the recliner doesn’t hit the wall. Just a warning that this chair comes with the side-effect of feeling like your grandpa.
I recommend going with the black leather fabric. The subtle wing detail, curved arms, and nailhead trim completes this classic look.

Best Bean Bag Chair for the Bedroom
Gericco Giant Plush Bean Bag Chair

If you don’t want to spend a month’s (or three) rent on a chair for your bedroom, this $200 bean bag chair on Amazon will get the job done. This pillow-like foam chair is like an upgraded version of the bean bags you sat on as a child. It offers more support, has armrests, and the wide-wale tufted corduroy gives it a slightly more grown-up look. It says it’s for adults, we swear. Just keep in mind that it’s from Amazon and much cheaper than anything else on this list, so you’re getting what you pay for.
It’s certainly better than that empty bedroom corner that your partner grouses about. Reviewers say it’s very comfy and good for reading a book in, but if you want that lower back support, you might want to spring for the ottoman.

Best Timeless Chair for Bedroom
Albany Park Park Armchair

The Park Armchair is a great mid-range option. Coming in at $819, it’s still a little pricey but Albany Park’s quality makes it worth it. The silhouette of the chair, which is boxy, looks a bit on the modern side, but with the right fabric choice, it could look more traditional. This armchair gives you the best of both worlds, which is good for those who want flexibility. Styles change after all, so sometimes it’s best to invest in something that isn’t too on-trend.
The fabrics available are mostly jewel-tone velvets, making it one of the most colorful chairs on this list.

Best Chaise for the Bedroom
Anthropologie Gwinnette Chaise

Why have a simple armchair when you could have an elegant chaise instead? Let’s bring back fainting chairs in bedrooms. Sure, it looks like it’s out of the Victorian Era, but think about the fact that you can stretch out without having to adjust an ottoman. It is also technically a chair; I looked it up.
This Anthropologie chaise is made to order with a whopping 83 fabric options, you can really customize this piece to your tastes. We recommend styling it with a colorful art print, a small drink table, and a luxurious mohair throw. You might prefer lying around on this chaise to your bed.

What to Look for in a Bedroom Chair

Size
Cozy bedroom chairs are going to be on the larger side. That is unfortunately a fact that you need to consider when shopping. In fact, measure that bedroom corner right now before you start browsing and fall in love with something. Bedroom chairs can make spaces look smaller and cramped, so it’s important to evaluate your space and see if you need something with a lighter silhouette (a.k.a. A chair whose bottom doesn’t fully touch the ground).
Design
Everyone has different design preferences, so I picked a variety to ensure there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re a hardcore traditionalist or want a modern design piece that’ll turn heads, you’ll find it on this list. There are also plenty of middleground options. Also keep in mind whether you want something high- or low-backed or high or low to the ground. If you have long legs or are tall, you likely will detest hitting in a low chair. Design can also mean comfort.
