The 8 Best Sneakers with Collapsible Heels

Under Armour’s Echo shoes have a ton of great cushion, which is supportive and comfortable. These are built for long days on your feet, and they are handy to have when you might need more than one type of shoe. Wear ’em heels up or down.

Nike’s EasyOn shoe line is all there in the name: sneakers that are easy to put on. Many of them are familiar silhouettes but altered slightly the make the tongue stretchier, laces toggled, and heels soft enough to smush your foot into.

OluKai’s Tradewind shoes just look like they belong near a large body of water or in an otherwise very chill location. Most of the brand’s shoes have some sort of easy-to-put-on element, like the collapsible heel of these. They are handy as hell.

Vans Authentics are a perennial favorite, and the Kickdown version levels the whole shoe up. That contrast heel stitch is built into the look of the shoe, but it’s also where the shoe collapses for easy putting on. Our only gripe is that Vans isn’t making enough of the shoes (hype cycle be damned), so these often sell out in our preferred colors. The On Cloudnova 2 is beloved for it’s soft knit upper, breathable fabric, and perfectly supportive midsole. This version is even better, with a slightly softer heel made to bend as you stick your foot into the shoe. They are lightweight and basically a perfect walking shoe.

We just had to include these Nike Go FlyEases, because the shoe played a role in opening the shoe world of adaptive fashion. While this unisex style does not have a collapsible heel, exactly—it’s instead a bascule bridge, opening down the middle for putting your foot in—we had to include it on the list.

Teva’s hiking shoes don’t look like hiking shoes, nor do they look like they are hiding collapsible heels. These are a great, low-profile, inconspicuous option. They are lightweight with that easy heel and grippy outsole.

Arc’teryx’s Kragg shoes are another great outdoorsy option but in a slip-on style. Slip-ons are admittedly easier to design with a collapsible heel, but these are collapsible like no other. The heels are a stretchy but high-quality knit, made easy to move about with a loopy pull tab.
