We’ve got no problem with going all out when it comes to colorful watches. We’ve even got a guide to some of the most interesting ones out there this summer, with cases that range from blazing yellow to cool blue. And we’re never going to try to talk you out of, say, a classic diver with an orange dial. But sometimes you want to approach things with a little more restraint and wear a watch that invites attention without shouting for it.
Enter this fantastic chronograph from Timex, which keeps it tonal with a steel case and bracelet complemented by a silver sunray dial. Leave it at that and you’d have something sleek, sophisticated, and subdued. But it’s summertime. This is the season of taking things a little less seriously. So instead of equally understated sub-dials, Timex decided to have some fun with it and throw red, blue, and teal into the mix.
This isn’t some unheard-of development. Plenty of brands do colorful sub-dials on classic chronographs at a range of prices. TAG Heuer’s much-loved Carrera “Skipper” jumps to mind, as does Wind Vintage’s recent-ish collaboration with True North Watch Company. But even on the lower end, they’re rarely as affordable or easy to get your hands on as this Timex, which is nearly 30 percent off thanks to a limited-time deal on Amazon. Our advice? Scoop it up, wear it for the rest of the summer, and then, when fall comes around, just keep on wearing it.
