We’re only a few weeks removed from Converse unveiling Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s signature logo and now, the brand has officially introduced the Oklahoma City Thunder guard’s first signature shoe.
Dubbed the Shai 001, Converse confirmed that Gilgeous-Alexander was instrumental in the design process as he shared several hand-drawn sketches with the design teams that contributed to the final product.
The sneaker features a molded design on the upper paired with a shroud and a zipper running down the center. For this silhouette, Converse has incorporated Nike’s Zoom Air cushioning tech in the midsole with a responsive airbag at the forefoot.
“I poured my heart and soul into the Shai 001, and I’m proud to share it with the world,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “From performance to design, every aspect of this shoe reflects my passion for the game and my commitment to pushing the boundaries. We made the Shai 001 a versatile shoe for everyone—from the athlete who’s in the gym three times a day to the kids who just want to express themselves on or off the court.”
Gilgeous-Alexander’s Converse Shai 001 will launch later this fall at Converse.com and at select Converse stockists. Fans will be able to check out the Shai 001 in action when Gilgeous-Alexander laces it up for the All-Star Game this weekend.
UPDATE (08/07): Gilgeous-Alexander and Converse have officially announced that his “Butter” Shai 001 colorway will be released on Sept. 4 at Converse.com for $130.
