As unveiled at a special event at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Doernbecher Children’s Hospital yesterday, the Air Jordan 17 will be part of this year’s Nike Doernbecher XXI collection.

The newest colorway of Michael Jordan’s signature model was designed by patient Zach Rumbaugh, who gave the sneaker a car-inspired design. The iridescent upper references custom car wraps, while a cat logo at the toe celebrates his affinity for cats. The number 38 is also featured on the lace lock and hang tag as a nod to how many days Rumbaugh was at the Doernbecher hospital. It’s worth noting that there’s also a glow-in-the-dark element on the outsoles.

Rumbaugh’s Air Jordan 17, along with the rest of this year’s Doernbecher designs, was first available for auction last night in Portland before launching on SNKRS later this winter. Check back soon for official details surrounding the release in the coming weeks.
