Ahead of the 2025 Boston Marathon on Monday, Puma has unveiled a new version of its running supershoe, with the Fast-R Nitro Elite 3 launching this weekend.

According to the brand, a study conducted at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, showed that the latest Fast-R Nitro Elite 3 helped runners see around a 3.15 percent improvement in their running economy, which translates to saving about 4 minutes and 30 seconds for a 3-hour marathoner.

This was achieved through the supershoe’s new Nitrofoam Elite foam paired with an updated Pwrplate in the midsole, providing propulsion and running efficiency. The upper features a breathable Ultraweave material and has the recognizable Formstrip and Puma logo on the sides.

“We redefined the creation process to be completely digital. Optimizing this approach has resulted in science and data that proves Puma is not just competing in the running category, we’re leading it,” Romain Girard, Puma’s VP of Innovation, said. “This is a truly generational shoe that sets a new standard for the entire category.”

The Puma Fast-R Nitro Elite 3 will release in limited quantities at Puma’s Boston Marathon experience located at 745 Boylston Street on April 18 for $300. Another drop will take place on April 25 at Puma.com and at select Puma retailers.
