You’d be forgiven for falling for these rumors given Affleck’s recent romantic history. Nearly 20 years after he and Jennifer Lopez ended their engagement in 2003, the exes reunited, wed, then split. The 52-year-old has been officially single since last summer, and his divorce from Lopez was finalized in January 2025.

Meanwhile, Affleck’s other ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, has been a steady presence in the actor’s life throughout his whirlwind romance, mostly because the couple coparents their three children, the youngest of whom, Samuel, is just 13. That Affleck would fall for another ex named Jennifer certainly seems within the realm of possibility.…

However, since the couple’s divorce was finalized in 2018, Garner has been linked to businessman John Miller. Unlike Bennifer, Garner and Miller have kept their relationship out of the spotlight. Which is why, after photos of Garner and Affleck looking affectionate at the birthday party of their son, Samuel, last weekend, rumors began to swirl about a possible reconciliation—seemingly without factoring in Garner’s long-term relationship with Miller.

The exes were photographed at their son’s paintball birthday party on Sunday, March 2. In a few photos which have been making the rounds, Affleck appears to have his arm wrapped around Garner’s waist.

What have the exes said about the rumors?

Nothing officially yet, however, a few sources have been quoted on behalf of the former couple. “They have been on good terms for a while now and seem to enjoy chatting and hanging out,” an insider told People on March 7. “Most of the time, the kids are around too.”

A second source added that Affleck is “charming,” and that “when he’s doing well, he has great energy. Right now, Jen has only good things to say about him.”

“She enjoys spending time with him,” they continued. “He’s a great dad too. But he also has this dark, struggling side that resurfaces. Over the years, it affected their marriage negatively and caused their divorce.”

Yet another source added that rumors of a reconciliation are “ridiculous.”

How did the rumors get so far?

This isn’t the first time that fans have jumped to the conclusion that Affleck was trying to woo his ex-wife. Back in 2022, while he was in a relationship with Lopez, fans latched on to an interview in which he called his divorce from Jennifer Garner his “biggest regret.”

“I never thought that I was going to get divorced,” he said. “I didn’t want to get divorced. I didn’t want to be a divorced person. I really didn’t want to be a split family with my children. And it upset me because it meant I wasn’t who I thought I was. And that was so painful and so disappointing in myself.”
