ASAP Nast has some thoughts on a family tree showing the evolution of streetwear and fashion in music after he declared that ASAP Mob influenced the younger generations of rappers that followed them.
When the Instagram page for Gross World Los Angeles shared a video breaking down what they called a family tree of the relationships between fashion and modern hip-hop, starting with the likes of Dipset, Pharrell, and designers like Raf Simons and Dapper Dan, Nast clearly disagreed. The family tree showed the influence passing down to the artist formerly known as Kanye West, followed by Travis Scott, Drake, and others, including ASAP Mob and Playboi Carti.
The video argues that ASAP Nast wasn’t speaking about the origin of streetwear in hip-hop, but rather the bridge between generations and its evolution. In response, Nast pushed back on Instagram Stories, writing, “These young whipper snappers wouldn’t be on none of this shit without ASAP n***as. They act like they forgot or something lol this whole generation came from ASAP… Yea we claiming it all and the receipts are there too incase anyone wanna argue this go do your homework first.”
In a comment, Nast responded, “This is still wrong lol.” In a follow-up comment, he added, “Bari is the ring leader of all of it let’s talk about it.”
Earlier this month, Nast was among a group of celebrities tapped to be a part of a new Off-White project.
The project is the 10×10: Off-White™ Icons Reimagined series, which sees creatives from differing fields unveiling new Off-White products. Drops like “SNEAKERS” will be led by Kid Cudi, while “OBJECTS” will see Nast at the helm.
