Julia Roberts inspired Ayo Edebiri’s Golden Globes ensemble.

Edebiri arrived at the awards show on Sunday in an oversized gray suit, similar to Roberts’ look at the same awards ceremony in 1990. Edebiri donned a custom Loewe outfit, which included a baggy suit jacket and pants, a gray collared shirt, and black loafers. She completed the look with a long gold feather tie, hoop earrings, and a silver grill in her mouth.

Edebiri also wore her hair in loose waves, similar to Roberts’ hair back then. “We dyed my hair this morning,” the Bear actress told People. “It was kind of insane dying my hair in a hotel room, but I think worth it!”

In 1990, Roberts wore an oversized gray Armani suit, a white collared shirt, and a tie.

The two actresses aren’t strangers. They recently wrapped their upcoming thriller, After the Hunt, which also stars Andrew Garfield, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Chloë Sevigny.

Roberts recently commented on her iconic 1990 Golden Globes look, telling British Vogue in January 2024 that it became one of her “all-time favorite outfits” that she’s worn to an awards show.

“I did my hair, my girlfriend did my makeup. And I got this suit at Armani in Beverly Hills,” Roberts explained. “I went into the men’s department and they had an in-store tailor and they tailored it to fit me.”

She added, “I could not have known that it was going to become this, like, statement outfit—I just thought I looked fabulous.” She also revealed that the ensemble is still hanging in her closet.
