Futura has chosen a Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 as his latest canvas as part of a new Hot Wheels collaboration.
The resulting limited-edition collectible, per Futura, stands as a tribute to Japan’s street culture, which has remained a sustaining influence on his work for decades. Starting Sept. 24, the piece will be available to shop on Complex.
Below, we break down everything you need to know.
Futura Laboratories links with Hot Wheels for new collaboration
The 1:64 scale die-cast features Futura’s Moment Magnitude Scale artwork, albeit in a reimagined fashion incorporating the New York artist’s Perpetual Motion atom. Other key design details include Hot Wheels Real Rider tires, die-cast body and chassis, smoke-tinted windows, and a Futura-designed acrylic display case with a decorative slipcover.
Starting Sept. 24 at 12 pm EST, the Hot Wheels x Futura Laboratories Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 from Mattel Creations will be available to shop on Complex. Two days later, on Sept. 26, prospective buyers will be able to hit up Mattel Creations for a chance at bagging a die-cast. The price for the limited-edition piece is set at $45.
Earlier this year, NIGO and Hot Wheels teamed up for a detailed Mercedes-Benz Project G-Class Past II Future replica. That piece, as seen here, boasted a removable hardtop and custom Moncler interior, bringing a lifelike quality to the small-scale format.
Hot Wheels x Futura Laboratories Atom Tee and Hoodie
The Hot Wheels x Futura Laboratories collab also features an exclusive apparel collection consisting of two standout pieces: the $45 Atom Tee, highlighted by Futura’s signature atom print and a redrawn Hot Wheels flame logo, and the $90 Speed Test Boxy Hoodie, featuring racing-inspired graphics, bold contrast sleeves, and embroidered details.
