We at Glamour are constantly analyzing Jennifer Lawrence’s outfits for some kind of formula that’s easy to emulate. She gave the answer to Amy Poehler in one interview.
During a recent appearance on Good Hang podcast, Poehler asked the 35-year-old actor about her relationship with her clothes. “I do a lot of closet clean outs,” Lawrence told the first Emmy-winning podcast host. “I think living in New York helps with that. I don’t have a lot of excess stuff that confuses me. I have things that I really like.”
That much is definitely true. Lawrence is regularly seen re-wearing her favorite pieces around New York, albeit in fresh combinations. Currently, Lawrence seems to be rotating through a select number of winter outerwear, highly favoring a butter yellow robe coat and cropped leopard faux fur jacket by Jacquemus.
The mother of two says she “loosely” plans her outfits ahead of time to present herself as “effortless” in a “who is this girl, how’d she get so pretty” kind of way. And Lawrence nails her prompt every time by relying on one specific rule. “You can write it down,” she tells Poehler.
Got your pen ready? “Big goes with big,” Lawrence tells Poehler, adding one caveat. “If you’re going to have a baggie and a tight [item of clothing], you cannot ever have tight on the bottom, baggy on the top, or you look like a lamp. You can have baggy on the bottom and tight on the top, but you cannot do the other way around.”
Looking back on Jennifer Lawrence’s last six months of outfits, she rarely ever strays from her big-with-big formula, but even when she opted for a rare pair of slim cigarette jeans, she balanced the look with a fitted jacket.
Wow, who knew it could be that easy?
