If Bella Hadid hadn’t already convinced us to chop all our hair off for spring, Margot Robbie just made it official. Hadid and Robbie both ditched long length for a pageboy bob and wispy fringe—and their different takes on the look prove just how versatile this trending cut can be.
Robbie marked the official end of her Wuthering Heights era—and all the long, crimped waves that came with it—with a dramatic hair transformation. On March 9 she debuted her new cut at the Chanel presentation at Paris Fashion Week: A tousled bob that hits just above her shoulders, paired with a light, wispy fringe. And while her go-to stylist Bryce Scarlett may have teased the chop with a glamorous Olsen tuck last month, it’s the shortest we’ve seen Robbie go since pre-Barbie.

While the traditional pageboy bob is a bit shorter (usually skimming the jaw, à la Hadid’s recent chop), Margot Robbie’s version borrows its unstructured shape and soft layering. Modern iterations of the cut favor natural texture variation and subtle layers. In fact, Elliot Bute, a stylist at London salon Hersheson, encourages you to “play with different lengths—from chin-length to shoulder-length—and experiment with bangs, choosing a wavy or side-swept version instead of a traditional blunt fringe.”
Although Robbie’s ends are kept heavy, her new cut is much lower maintenance than a razor-sharp blunt bob. Her natural-looking waves add movement and texture, while the barely there bangs bring an effortless quality to the look.
