Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” swept at the Grammys on Sunday, Feb. 2, and he did it in an outfit many have perceived as another subtle dig at Drake.
While collecting his awards for the track—including both Record the Year and Song of the Year—Kung-Fu Kenny was wearing a Maison Margiela matching denim jacket and jeans, with a chain and a denim cap complementing the outfit. For those unfamiliar with the significance of the outfit choice, a matching denim top and bottoms are colloquially known as a ‘Canadian Tuxedo.’
It wasn’t a good night at the Grammys for Drake, who didn’t pick up a single nomination. K Dot’s No. 1 Drake diss ultimately picked up five Grammys on Sunday: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Music Video. If only Drake knew how prophetic his “Family Matters” line about Kendrick and the Grammys would prove to be.
Despite being the subject of the track, Drake wasn’t mentioned directly or indirectly by Kendrick or “Not Like Us” producer Mustard when they collected the awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. “First and foremost, all praise to the most high. We woke up this morning,” said K Dot when he strolled up on stage. “Rest in paradise my auntie Shannon. She transitioned yesterday, so this is special.”
