Law Roach is already hinting at bold, artistic risks for the 2026 Met Gala.

While speaking to E! News at the 89th Annual Fashion Scholarship Fund Gala on Monday (March 23), Zendaya’s longtime stylist said, “You’re always excited to see the way people interpret the theme and Fashion as Art is a very broad theme. So, maybe we’ll see someone dressed as the Mona Lisa, which I’m sure somebody will do that.”

He explained that despite the spectacle, the reality of preparing looks for the Met Gala is demanding and fleeting.

“It’s a lot of stress and they’re only on the carpet for like five minutes, and then you go in and it’s all over,” Roach explained, as seen in the video linked above. “So, it’s months and months of hard work for a five-minute payout.”

Roach, who has styled as many as 12 celebrities for a single Met Gala, described his creative process with Zendaya as fluid and unpredictable.

“Our relationship is so symbiotic that it could be one dress, it could be a thousand dresses. You just never know,” he said.

The 2026 Met Gala will take place on May 4 at Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. This year’s co-chairs include Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Anna Wintour. The event’s theme is “Costume Art” and its official dress code is “Fashion is Art.”

“What connects every curatorial department and what connects every single gallery in the museum is fashion, or the dressed body,” said Andrew Bolton, the curator in charge of the Costume Institute, per Vogue. “It’s the common thread throughout the whole museum, which is really what the initial idea for the exhibition was.”
