More than a decade into his acting career, Timothée Chalamet has entered the timepiece space as ambassador for independent watch brand Urban Jürgensen.
On Wednesday (April 22), the Marty Supreme star was announced as a new member of the Urban Jürgensen family. In addition to being a brand ambassador, Chalamet now owns a minority stake in the Swiss-Danish company and will serve as creative adviser on select projects.
“When [owners] Andy and Alex Rosenfield introduced me to Urban Jürgensen, what drew me in was how clearly the focus was on the watches themselves—on craft, on process, on getting it right,” Chalamet stated, according to GQ. “It also felt like something different than the typical arrangement—more of a creative collaboration than a traditional endorsement. I’m excited to be involved and to continue exploring this world alongside them.”
Although UJ relaunched last year, the brand was founded in 1773. Under Chalamet’s guidance, UJ will have a fresh take on modern style while keeping its timepieces classic.
“A couple of years ago a film director I admire deeply piqued my interest in artisanal watchmaking—not the flashy kind, but the kind that demands years of discipline, patience, and ultimately, mastery,” Chalamet said. “I started to see it as a sibling to filmmaking—a precise expression, just on a different scale. One lives on an IMAX screen, the other within 48 by 40 by 10 millimeters, but both have the ability to hold entire worlds within them.”
While Chalamet has been spotted in UJ watches over the last year, he’s also been known to wear statement pieces by Simon Brette and and Cartier. The latter was part of the actor’s fit at this year’s Academy Awards.
